Miguel*, stay-at-home dad, Nicaragua
Miguel—name changed to protect identity—has endured many challenges in his life, including being raised in a group home. He was the first in his family to graduate from secondary school and his long term goals are to be a present father and to be able to financially support his family. He is currently staying at home with his young daughter and supporting his fiancé in obtaining her beauty license. They dream of opening a salon together in the future.
The news organizations in Nicaragua are largely owned by the president, but Miguel has Facebook and knows enough English to decipher what is going on in the world. He has seen the difference between what the news is reporting in Nicaragua and the impact the coronavirus has had on the rest of the world. These are his observations.
