Peeps paused production in September 2020, skipping the usual Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day-themed treats. This prompted concern in fans of the festive marshmallows, and they worried they would be without the colorful, bird-shaped candies come spring 2021. Fortunately for fans, Just Born Quality Confections announced that, despite the coronavirus pandemic, it is resuming Peeps production just in time for Easter.
“Peeps is back and better than ever! We’re thrilled to be returning this Spring to fulfill special Easter traditions, no matter how you plan on celebrating this year,” Caitlin Servian, brand manager for Peeps, said. “For nearly seven decades, Peeps Marshmallow Candy has been a quintessential Easter staple. Each year fans count on the classic chicks and bunnies, along with fun new products and partnerships, to add extra ‘Peep-sonality’ at Easter!”
The Peeps returning to shelves this spring will include two brand-new flavors. The brand announced it will introduce Hot Tamales Fierce Cinnamon Chicks and Froot Loops Flavored Pops this spring. Previous flavors Cotton Candy, Party Cake, Root Beer, and Sour Watermelon will also return in the spring.
The colorful marshmallow chicks people know and love aren’t the only tasty treats hitting shelves this spring. Peeps cereal will be making a comeback, as will Peeps Lofthouse sugar cookies. The company is also introducing new treats exclusive to specific stores this year. Walmart is releasing a blue raspberry flavored version of the classic treat, and Target will carry raspberry chicks dipped in fudge, caramel chicks dipped in chocolate, and giant marshmallow bunnies.
Additionally, leaning into the social distancing we’ve all become so familiar with over the last year, Peeps is releasing another Walmart exclusive. Walmart will also carry Egg Hunt Yellow Chicks, which will be individually wrapped to perfectly suit whatever socially distanced Easter activities you have planned.
